"3-1-2" Meridian Exercise is a development of the traditional Chinese meridian
theory in integrating the 3 aspects of meridian exercise, i.e., the direct
massage of 3 meridians to activate the "Blood" and "Qi" of the 3 regions of the
body, and the indirect massage of the 9 meridians of abdomen by Qigong training
to balance the Yin and Yang of the viscera, and to excite the 20 meridians of
the whole body by physical exercise in a dynamic state, leading to an extra
augmentative flow of "Blood" and "Qi" and a thorough clearing off all the
evils: bacteria, virus, emboli and etc. from the body. "3-1-2" is simple and
easy to be handled by everybody, even the aged and children, but the power is
great. People love "3-1-2" deeply.
Meridian exercise is a secret recipe for health and longevity. To promote
peoples health and longevity, Professor Zhu Zongxiang of Beijing Yanghuang
Meridian Research Center has designed the "3-1-2" Acupuncture Meridian
Exercises, which is easily practiced and effective for everyone, and can prevent
and treat diseases. Here, "3" refers to massage of three acupuncture-points (Hegu,
Neiguan and Zusanli ) . "1" refers to concentrating at the area of Dantian and
abdominal breathing. "2" refers to medium physical activities with two legs
squatting as the principal form. For general people, 25 minutes practice
everyday can help them to keep young and vigorous, to prevent and treat many
senile and difficult diseases and to relieve some common diseases.
Popularizing "3-1-2" Meridian Exercise
Through more than a decade's effort, there are several millions people at home
and abroad have practiced the meridian exercises and benefited from the
effectiveness. More than seven thousands people have participated in the
clinics. Among them, those who suffered from 35 kinds of diseases such as
hypertension, heart diseases, diabetes and arthritis have achieved obvious
effectiveness after four weeks practice, with effective rate of 95% and marked
effective rate of 50% (stopping taking medicine or removing symptom), all
trainees have become very energetic and vigorous. The exercises, being
economical and benefiting people themselves as well as the country, have won
glory for Traditional Chinese Medicine and brought benefit to the aged and the
mankind.
The "3-1-2" Acupuncture Meridian Exercise
"Three" : Acupuncture-points "3" refers to the massage of 3 acupuncture-points: Hegu, Neiguan and Zusanli. i.e.,
through the massage of the three acupuncture-points, ‘Blood’ and ‘Qi’ of the related
three meridians: Large Intestine, Pericardium and Stomach are activated. This
will enhance the circulation of ‘Blood’ and ‘Qi’ around the whole body.
Hegu
Hegu belongs to the Meridian of Large Intestine. Massaging of this
acupuncture-point can
treat some disorders of the face and head, such as headache, fever, sore throat,
laryngitis, nasal sinusitis etc., with good curative effect. Massage of Hegu is
also the best way to prevent apoplexy.
Neiguan
Neiguan belongs to the Pericardium Meridian which begins from the internal
chest, running to the thorax, then from the axilla up to the shoulder along the
middle line of the velar side of the upper arm, via the palm finally to the tip
of the middle finger. Massage of Neiguan can treat all the troubles occurred
along this meridian, especially the cardiac and pulmonary diseases.
Zusanli
Zusanli is located on the small leg of the Stomach Meridian. Since the Stomach
Meridian travels throughout the body from the head to the toes, not only
digestive disorders but also other diseases such as fever, headache, toothache,
mental disorders, asthma, hypertension, cardiac vascular diseases, arthritis,
jaundice, palpitation, urological diseases etc., can be treated by acupuncture
or massage at Zusanli. Zusanli has been accepted as the point of longevity in
China and other Southeast Asian countries among the ages.

In summary, massage of the three acupuncture-points, Hegu is in charge of the arm and
head, Neiguan is in charge of the chest, heart and lung, Zusanli is in charge of
lower limbs, viscera and bowels, so the diseases of the whole body can be cured
and prevented at all. "One" : Abdominal Respiration "1" refers to the exercise of one abdominal respiration which is a simple basic
Qigong training without side effect. It can be performed twice a day with a
duration of 5 minutes for each session.
When practicing, one can either lie or sit down with the whole body relaxed. One
should think about nothing else but concentrating your mind at the Dantian, 5 cm
below the novel, and keep the chest stable to eliminate any chest respiration.
During inhalation, one has to inflate one’s abdomen by the relaxation of
abdominal muscles as much as possible in 5 second or so and then to exhale.
During exhaling, the abdominal muscles should be contracted slowly as much as
possible and the abdomen drawn in.
There are at least 9 meridians passing through the lower abdomen. They are
doubly symmetrical lines of the Kidney, Stomach, Spleen Meridians and the
central Ren Meridian. During abdominal breathing, following the movement of the
abdominal muscles, all the 9 meridians should be activated. A lot of chronic
diseases, such as hypertension, insomnia, diabetes etc, have been proved to be
effective. "Two" : Physical Exercise of the Two Legs "2" refers to the physical exercise of the two legs. According to our 15 years
practice, the most simple and effective exercise is the squatting down and
standing up. Physical exercise will involve the excitation of all the 20
meridians (including 8 extra meridians) following the movements of the muscles
of the whole body. This is the reason of why the "3-1-2" Meridian Exercise could
prevent and cure diseases and promote 100 years health for everybody.
Scientific Verification of Acupuncture Meridians
What is Meridians?
Meridians is the great discovery in traditional Chinese medicine of 2,500 years
ago. It was definitely pointed out in "Huang Di Neijing", an ancient medical
classic, that meridians has the function of promoting circulation of energy and
blood and balancing "Yin" and "Yang", and determining death and life and
treating various diseases, which means that meridians, as the control system of
human body, has the function of preventing diseases and promoting health and
longevity.
Meridian science is a science different from all the contemporary medical
sciences. The basis of the meridian science is the objective existence of the
meridian system which plays the dominant role of the homeostasis of the body,
especially for healing and health promotion, while western medicine knows
nothing about the meridian.
The essence of the meridian theory is to promote circulation of "Blood" and "Qi”
and to balance "Yin" and "Yang”. For thousands years, the practices of
Traditional Chinese Medicine, such as acupuncture, massage, traditional Chinese
medical herbs, Qigong, Taichi and etc. have proved the validity of the meridian
theory. Recent advances of the state meridian project have shown that the
meridian line is a complicated pathway of "Blood" and "Qi". i.e., a vivid
channel of transferring material, energy and information.
How is the existence of meridians confirmed?
Through more than 20 years effort, scientists from biophysics institute of China
Academy of Sciences and Beijing Yanhuang Meridian Research Center finally found
three biophysical methods to demonstrate that the 14 meridians of human body
could be determined. The results are surprisingly identical with that written in
ancient classical meridian chart. The meridian lines determined by three methods
all have morphologic basis. Below is the summaries of the three biophysical
methods to demonstrate the 14 meridians of human body could be determined:
(1) Acoustic Method
Applying an automatic hammer with sharp rubber tip to percuss the lines
perpendicular to the meridian, one can differentiate the high percussion sound (HPS)
produced and enlarged through the electric transducer instrument, just as the
hammer reached at the point on the meridian line. By linking up the serial HPS
points determined along the percussing lines at different levels of the
meridian, a line of HPS which is coincident with the ancient meridian chart can
be recorded.
(2) Electrical Impedance Method
Applying an 30Hz-40Hz of impulsive current, probing with the testing electrode
scanning along the lines perpendicular to the tested meridian, a series of low
impedance points (LIP) with high coincidence with the ancient meridian chart can
be recorded. As the HPS, the width of the LIP is also within 1 mm.
(3) Method to Reveal the Hypersensitivity of the Meridian (LPSC)
By turning a 10Hz low frequency impulse current to the "Jing" acupuncture point of a
meridian and tapping with a delicate hammer along the lines perpendicular to the
tested meridian, a series of hypersensitive points can be differentiated by the
subject.
All the 3 biophysical characteristics of the meridian are surprisingly
coincident each other within 1 mm in width and also with the ancient meridian
chart.
