Li Cai-rong (11/12/1885-5/9/2005) was a Chinese
super-centenarian, claimed to be the oldest living human being and the
third-oldest person ever recorded, behind Jeanne
Calment and Shigechiyo Izumi.
At the time of her death, her family were reportedly seeking recognition of her
age from the Guinness Book of World Records. However, no proof of birth or other
documents were ever sent, and the claim that
"documents were being sent" was more than a year old. In any case, Li
Cai-rong
was the "faux doyenne" of China; in other words, she claimed to be China's
oldest person.
The old lady attributed her longevity to a regular diet, optimistic outlook,
good living
environment, calm and peaceful nature, and the fact that she has been physically
active all her life.
Doctors said she died of natural causes, finally succumbing to a chest infection
and organ failure. Her grandson said the family had taken their grandmother to
the park for the May Day festival, a trip that had delighted her, but the next
day she had a fever and diarrhea.
On 5/7/2005, the family was told there was nothing more that could be done for
her, the reports said. Li Cai-rong, who had only been in hospital twice in her
life, was taken back to her home to spend her final
days.
