France Super-Centenarian Marie Bremont

Marie Bremont

AKA Marie Marthe Augustine (Mesange) Lemaitre Bremont
Birthplace: Noellet, France
Born: 4/25/1886
Died: 6/6/2001
Age: 115 years 42 days
Cause of death: Natural causes
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White
Occupation: Elderly
Nationality: France

Born in 4/25/1886 in the village of Noellet in western France, the daughter of a lumberjack, Bremont began working at age 8 on a farm carrying buckets of pig feed.

She later worked as a pharmaceutical factory worker, nanny and seamstress in the Paris region, where she met her husbands.

Like many poor rural folk, she went to Paris in 1906, at the age of 20, to find work.

Her first husband, railway worker Constant Lemaitre, was killed in the First World War. She married again to a taxi driver Florentin Bremont, who died in 1967.

"I had two good husbands. I have always been happy," she told reporters at her 115th birthday celebrations.

Surviving the tests of time wasn't always easy. At 103, Bremont was hit by a car and broke her arm.

Mrs Bremont died in her sleep at 2.15a.m. on 6/6/2001 at her retirement home in Cande, in the Maine-et-Loire region about 240km west of Paris, according to French media reports. She left no children.

"For the past 8 to 10 days she was a bit more tired than usual," said the retirement home director, Joseph Foucher. "She died calmly, in the image of her life."
