Time causes the skin to become less elasticity and less radiant. The skin is affected due to frequent
exposure to the sunlight and radiation, polluted environment, imbalanced diet,
insufficient sleep, lack of exercise and stressful lifestyle. All these factors
will only increase the process of ageing quickly. In addition to the humid hot
tropical climate like Southeast Asia countries, anyone walking on the street
would feel uncomfortable due to perspiration and sweat. Many would think that
it’s best not to use skincare products in the day. Based on the
dermal-physiology of skin, it is of vital importance to protect the health and
beauty of our skin especially under the damaging burning sunlight, failing
which, may result in serious skin problems.
Let us discuss about how the characteristics of tropical climate will affect our
skin naturally:
- High temperature:
Burning hot sunny days.
Cool after heavy rain.
Temperature ranging from 30°C – 38°C.
- Strong ultra violet rays: UV rays radiations increase tremendously in the hot day. Long term exposure to
such UV rays may result in ageing of skin, wrinkle formation and skin darkening
and pigmentation.
UV’s can be categorized as UVA, UVB and UVC. The strongest UV rays radiations
occur between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm.
- High density of positive ions floating in the air: Positive ions float at low level in winter cold air but rise to high level in
hot weather and become more active.
- Helps bacteria’s growth: Warm (25°C – 40°C) and humid tropical climate provides the best environment for
bacteria’s growth.
The above environments factors easily affect the physiological changes of human
skin such as:
- Elevated sebum secretion: Skin surface on face becomes very much oily than normal under hot climate.
- Open pores: When temperature rises above 30°C, human skin helps regulate body temperature by
expelling excessive body heat by way of sweating through enlarged pores to
accomplish cooling.
- Expansion of blood capillaries in dermis: Under hot weather, blood capillaries right under the skin tend to expand easily.
- Loss of water:
Water evaporation (water from skin cells) occurs every second, day and night.
Air-conditioned indoors – dryness.
Outdoor – heat and ultraviolet rays.
- Reactions due to ultraviolet rays:
Long hour exposure (sunbathing, working under the sun) to ultraviolet rays
during hot days may damage the elastic fibers in the dermis; increase the
formation of free radicals resulting in ageing, wrinkles and skin cancer. The
activity of melanin helps speed up the hardening of the horned cells.
The above physiological changes will cause the following skin problem:
- Pimples, Acne
- Comedones
- Open pores
- Hardening, thickening and darkening of horned layer
- Pigments
- Wrinkles, dehydrated ageing
- Rashes
These nature factors will injure or affect the skin of every human being and
image direct or indirectly. There are certain selected products that cannot be
absorbed by the skin even if they are costly. This only slows the skin
metabolism process.
Today’s generation of ladies and men would need to use skin care products if
they desire to look good and have a beautiful skin. If not, it will arise some
critical skin problems.
